| Crown Automotive 4897221AA-K1 Viscous Coupling & Seal Kit For 249 Transfer Case In 1993-96 Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ #Viscous Coupling & Seal Kit For 249 Transfer Case In 1993-96 Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ - These "Viscous Couplings" are located in the Model 247 and Model 249 Transfer Case Assemblies. They are filled with a special fluid, along with sets of internal plates. The plates are connected to either the front or rear output shafts. They are used to transfer torque from the rear wheel to the front, or visa versa, in the event that either set of wheels begin to slip. When one set of wheels spins freely, the viscous fluid between the plates drags the slower set of plates along. This transfers torque to the wheels where it is needed! The viscous coupling does not interfere with turns. The advantages of these units are not felt until wheels actually lose traction. Because these units are filled with a viscous fluid, the viscosity of this fluid will break down over time. This occurs especially in hot climates, or severe use. When this happens, the effectiveness of 4WD is severely impaired.

Solution-dye isn't really a dye process, the color pigments are mixed into the compound that is extruded as thread. This puts the color all the way through each fiber making it more fade resistant and saves 1,000 gallons of water for every 1,000 yards of fabric produced since they don't surface-dye the fabric. To construct this fabric, pre-finishing chemistries are applied to the solution-dye polyester fabric to prep it for the encapsulation process. Nextec proprietary equipment then applies a viscous patented mixture of silicon-based polymers onto the fabric. Heat and pressure is applied to the polymers, working them inside the fabric and wrapping the individual fade resistant fibers. All but the smallest spaces are filled and the micro holes that remain allow the fabric to breathe so any moisture or heat under the cover can easily escape. Specially designed ovens cure the polymers to a solid state and the fabric is ready to make into covers. No microfibers, no laminates, and no surface coating. "EPIC" by Nextec's encapsulation process delivers all-weather protection, compact packability, easy care, and a soft-to-paint touch without sacrificing breathability. WeatherShield is not waterproof, but if kept clean it will shed most water and helps prevent dust, dirt, bird droppings and tree sap from reaching the vehicle surface. The breathable properties of the fabric assure that any heat, moisture or condensation under the cover can easily escape. This cover is backed by a four-year warranty against fabric flaws and workmanship.
